The Challenge

Meeting new business demands

As the producer of many of Australia’s most renowned media titles — including The Australian Women’s Weekly, Woman’s Day, Harper’s BAZAAR, ELLE, Australian Gourmet Traveller, and real living — Bauer Media has long been committed to creating award-winning content. When it was acquired two years ago, the company identified some gaps in its processes, which brought to light a need for greater visibility into project data and better file accessibility for its distributed workforce. One of the biggest changes the company had to tackle was a growing need to move away from traditional file-sharing methods like network drives, email, and paper printouts. According to Mobility Strategist Kathryn King, “The need to support our employees’ ability to work remotely and on the go was increasing as our business was changing. We needed a solution that allowed us to share files with equally strong levels of security and usability.”

The Solution

Redefining production workflows

In Dropbox Business, Bauer Media found a platform that keeps everyone on the same page — no matter where they work. Collaborative processes that used to require stacks of paper or CD copies now take place via shared folders. As King explains, “Dropbox Business has allowed us to redefine many content workflows and how we collaborate. The ability to make comments within a file, and tag other team members in a document is amazing; it’s definitely a next-level collaboration tool for us.” To ensure files are kept safe during collaborative processes, Bauer Media relies on OKTA for Active Directory (AD) integration and single sign-on. “We just add people to an AD group and OKTA starts the process, so it’s very simple,” King says. According to King, the companywide reaction to Dropbox Business has been “fantastic.” She attributes the successful adoption primarily to ease of use, adding, “People want it — they come to us for it, which is a change. It’s been the easiest product to roll out here.”

The Results

Faster production, better end products

With Dropbox Business continuing to release new features, like the Dropbox badge, Bauer Media employees continue to streamline workflows and find opportunities for efficiency gains. Projects move at a faster pace than ever before and the company continues to evolve how it works. As King states, “It matches where the company is now — which is dedicated to providing that agility in the new digital world.”
