While bringing awe-inspiring digital experiences to market does depend on innovative thinking and sharp skills, as Doberman can attest, flexible technology is also critical. For years, the company used on-premise servers to save and share design files. When it came to external sharing — with both clients and partners — everything from USB drives to DVDs to FTP sites was employed. When Dropbox first launched, many Doberman designers immediately added it to their file-sharing arsenal, quickly filling the available storage limits. As more and more Doberman employees began relying on Dropbox to deliver mission-critical client work, it became clear that the service fit well with the company’s workflows and need for flexibility. The next natural step was to upgrade the whole staff to Dropbox Business, which would streamline file sharing, provide additional storage space, and allow for better administrative control. Design Director Klas Thorsén explains, “Even though we had upgraded our server to a couple of terabytes, we found that Dropbox Business worked better for us. Technically, it’s so easy — you just join a folder and the files are there.”

With Dropbox Business in place, Doberman employees can access project files with ease. Large Photoshop and video files that used to take a long time to manually upload and download are now automatically synced in the background to project members’ computers. Designers can access past and current projects immediately — whether they’re working in Stockholm, New York, or even on-site with clients. “With Dropbox Business, you can take your computer offline or travel, and you still have your files right with you,” Thorsén says. “It used to be difficult to work in different time zones, but now all of our files stay synchronized and available to whoever needs them.” It has become much easier for Doberman to use freelance talent as well. Project files can be shared with on-site and remote contract designers, without having to procure extra licenses for Doberman’s Dropbox Business account. Instead, freelancers can access shared folders through their own personal Dropbox accounts or through shared links. “It’s great,” explains Thorsén. “We can have five people in different roles and different locations working on the same files. It’s a perfect example of why Dropbox Business serves us so well.” When it comes to presenting designs and prototypes to clients remotely, Doberman will often use Dropbox Business to deliver files. The company sets up separate client folders, and can then share important files with as many clients as necessary. According to Thorsén, “Dropbox Business has made client sharing easy. In the spring I worked on a project that we shared with about fifty people via Dropbox.”

With saved files on Dropbox Business, employees at Doberman never have to worry about losing their design work at any stage of the creative process. Even if files are accidentally deleted, they can be recovered in an instant. Thorsén says, “It’s nice to be 100 percent sure that files won’t be lost — especially if our designers are going abroad or doing a presentation in a client’s office. We know Dropbox Business will always protect them if they delete anything or if their computers crash.” Knowing files are always backed up is extremely valuable to Doberman staff, but Thorsén says the continual synchronization of files is the main reason why Doberman doesn’t want to live without Dropbox Business. In addition to Dropbox expediting collaboration among Doberman offices across Europe and the U.S., it makes life easier for employees who are working together right in the same studio. “The LAN sync feature of Dropbox Business makes it much faster to update files,” adds Thorsén. “With Dropbox, there’s no need for every computer to fetch the same file over the Internet.” Being able to work quickly and efficiently is key to Doberman’s ability to execute great designs and get them into market for clients.
