Recover older versions of files

Dropbox keeps snapshots of all changes made to files in your Dropbox within the past 30 days (or longer with Dropbox Business). You can recover older versions of files, restore deleted files, or undo deletion events.

Return to an older version of a file on dropbox.com

  1. Sign in to dropbox.com.
  2. Select the file you'd like to see previous versions of.
  3. Click Version history in the menu on the right sidebar. 
    • Alternatively, you can click "" (ellipsis) beside your file's name to see more options.
  4. Select a version to preview it.
  5. Click Restore on the version you'd like to restore to. 

 

Linux

Return to an older version of a file on Linux

  1. Right-click the file.
  2. Select Version history
  3. Follow the dropbox.com instructions to return to a older version or restore a file removed by accident.

Macintosh

Return to an older version of a file on a Mac

  1. Hit control on your keyboard and simultaneously click the file.
  2. Select View Previous Versions.
  3. Follow the dropbox.com instructions to return to a older version or restore a file removed by accident.

Win7/Win8/Win10

Return to an older version of a file on Windows

  1. Right-click the file.
  2. Hover your mouse over the Dropbox submenu and select Version history.
  3. Follow the dropbox.com instructions to return to a older version or restore a file removed by accident.
