How do I set a four-digit passcode on my phone or tablet?

You can require a four-digit passcode to be entered any time the Dropbox mobile app is launched. This feature will ensure the privacy of your Dropbox even when you're sharing your device.

Set a new passcode on the Dropbox iPhone app

  1. Select the Settings tab (the gear icon) at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap on Passcode Lock.
  3. Tap Turn Passcode On.
  4. Enter and confirm your new passcode.

From now on, every time you launch or return to the Dropbox app, you'll be required to enter your passcode. Your device will be signed out from Dropbox if there are 10 consecutive failed passcode attempts.

To change your passcode, just go to the Passcode Lock settings again.

Set a new passcode on the Dropbox iPad app

  1. Tap the Settings tab (the gear icon) at the bottom of the sidebar.
  2. Tap Passcode Lock.
  3. Tap Turn Passcode On.
  4. Enter and confirm your new passcode.

From now on, every time you launch or return to the Dropbox app, you'll be required to enter your passcode. Your device will be signed out from Dropbox if there are 10 consecutive failed passcode attempts.

To change your passcode, just go to the Passcode Lock settings again.

Set a new passcode on the Dropbox Android app

  1. Click the Menu button from the Dropbox app.
  2. Check the box next to Passcode lock.
  3. Tap Turn passcode on. Enter and confirm your new passcode.
  4. Tap on Passcode Lock and enter and confirm your new passcode.

Once you set your passcode, every time you launch or return to the Dropbox app, you are required to enter your new passcode. From the Passcode lock settings panel, you can also change your passcode or enable a setting that will delete the Dropbox data one should the wrong passcode be entered over ten times.

Set a new passcode on the Dropbox Windows Phone app

  1. From your root Dropbox on the Files, Photos, or Favorites tab, tap the Ellipsis (⋯) button from the app bar and select Settings.
  2. Tap on Security.
  3. Toggle Passcode Lock on.
  4. Enter and confirm your new passcode.

From now on, every time you launch or return to the Dropbox app, you'll be required to enter your passcode. Your device will be signed out from Dropbox if there are 10 consecutive failed passcode attempts.

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of your screen to bring up the Charms bar, and tap on Settings.
  2. Select Security.
  3. Toggle Passcode Lock on.
  4. Enter and confirm your new passcode.

From now on, every time you launch or return to the Dropbox app, you'll be required to enter your passcode. Your device will be signed out from Dropbox if there are 10 consecutive failed passcode attempts.

What if I forgot my passcode?

If you forgot your passcode you can reset directly from your phone by removing your Dropbox profile. This will reset the passcode prompt. Follow these steps to do so:

  1. Open your device's main Settings app
  2. Find your Accounts settings
  3. Select Dropbox
  4. Select Remove account

This will remove your Dropbox profile credentials, but it will not affect the contents of your Dropbox folder. The next time you open the Dropbox app, you will need to sign in using your password, but a passcode will not be required.

If you have trouble with the steps above, you can also unlink your device on the Dropbox website:

  1. Find your mobile device under the Devices section
  2. Click the x to the far right of the device name
  3. This will unlink your Dropbox account from that device. The next time you open the Dropbox app on your device, you will have to log in, but a passcode will not be required.
