Having fewer than 3 team members on a Dropbox team account

Updated Jan 29, 2024

Subscriptions for Dropbox team plans include 3 licenses, and it's not adjustable for fewer users. However, if you purchase a subscription for a Dropbox team plan, you don't need to use all of the licenses right away. Licenses can be reused and repurposed, so many Dropbox teams save extra licenses for contractors or clients.

If you don't need 3 licenses, each of your team members could sign up for an individual Dropbox Plus, Professional, or Essentials account instead. However, switching from a Dropbox team account to a Dropbox Plus, Professional, or Essentials account means you'll miss out on collaboration features like:

  • Centralized admin controls and billing for your team members
  • Longer version history for easy recovery of deleted files
  • Team folders, which can be automatically shared with everyone on the team
  • Early access to new Dropbox team features
  • Team security controls (single sign-on, required two-step verification, and more)
