Dropbox Terms of Service and Privacy Policy updates

We’re always looking for new ways to improve how you create and work together using Dropbox. We are updating our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy to support our continued improvements.

The updates include:

  • EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework certification
  • Explanation about how information can be displayed when collaborating on content
  • The use of Dropbox on business or organization domains
  • Clarification on cancellation, refund, and renewal policies

Learn more by reading our updated Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, our blog post, or read our frequently asked questions (FAQs) regarding these updates.

When do these updates take effect?

The updated Terms of Service and Privacy Policy take effect on February 10, 2017.

Will these updates affect the way I use Dropbox?

You can continue using Dropbox the same way you always have. The updated Terms of Service and Privacy Policy clarify how Dropbox works today.

What does it mean that Dropbox is EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework certified?

Dropbox is certified and complies with the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield principles. These principles allow Dropbox to transfer personal data outside of the European Economic Area (“EEA”) in accordance with the EU data protection directive. Our Privacy Policy updates provide information about the Privacy Shield program and our certification.

What information can be displayed when collaborating on content?

We’ve updated the Privacy Policy to show that Dropbox may display some of your basic profile information (like your profile name and profile picture) when you choose to collaborate on content with others. Features like the Dropbox badge and comments display this information when you view or comment on a file.

How will these updates help me connect to teams within my organization?

When you use Dropbox with an email address owned by your employer, or an organization you work with, you’re able to find and join teams who use the same domain. The names of Dropbox and Dropbox Business teams can be displayed to help users find teams at their organization.

Note: Dropbox and Dropbox Business team admins can disable this feature at any time.
