Dropbox + AutoCAD

By connecting your Dropbox account to AutoCAD, Dropbox users can now open and save .DWG files to Dropbox without leaving the AutoCAD desktop application.

Link Dropbox to AutoCAD

  1. Sign in to dropbox.com
  2. Navigate to the Autodesk App Store.
  3. Search for “Dropbox.”
  4. Select Dropbox Plugin.
  5. Click Download
  6. Once the download is finished, open the Dropbox download from your “Downloads” folder.
  7. Follow the prompts to install the plugin.
  8. If you have both a personal and work Dropbox account, you’ll be asked which account you’d like to link to AutoCAD. You can link both.

Once installed, Dropbox can be found in two places in AutoCAD:

  • In the Applications Menu
  • In the “Add-ins” toolbar

You’ll complete the linking process by logging in to your Dropbox account:

  1. Open the Applications Menu in AutoCAD.
  2. Select Dropbox.
  3. Click Connect To Dropbox.
  4. Follow the prompts to log in.

Open an AutoCAD file from Dropbox

  1. Open AutoCAD. 
  2. Open the Applications Menu. 
  3. Select Dropbox.
  4. Click Open from Dropbox. (If you have not yet linked your Dropbox account to AutoCAD, you’ll need to click Connect To Dropbox, follow the prompts, then return to this step.)
  5. Select the file you wish to open. (In the pop-up that appears, you can toggle between your accounts by clicking either Business or Personal. You can also see all .DWG files in both Dropbox accounts by clicking All AutoCAD drawings.)
  6. Click Open

The file will be opened in a new tab.

Save an AutoCAD file directly to Dropbox

  1. Open the Applications Menu in AutoCAD.
  2. Select Dropbox.
  3. Select either:
    • Save to Dropbox - This will overwrite any previous version of the file.
    • Save As to Dropbox - This will create a new copy of your file that you will need to rename.
  4. Click Save.
