Support for Windows XP has ended

Since August 29, 2016, the Dropbox desktop app no longer supports Windows XP. On this date, any Dropbox accounts linked to a Windows XP computers were signed out. You can sign in again once you update to Windows Vista or a later version of Windows.

If you are signed out of your Dropbox account, please know that no changes will be made to your account. Your files and photos will be safe. You'll still be able to access your account—or create a new account—on or on other compatible computers and mobile devices.

What does this mean for me?

If you were running Dropbox on a Windows XP computer, you need to update your operating system to Windows Vista or a later version by following the instructions on Microsoft's support site.

To check what version of Windows your computer is running, consult the list of linked devices on your account security page. Hovering over the i option in the activity column will display the device’s operating system.

What about my files?

Even if you don't update your operating system, your files will remain in your Dropbox account and will still be accessible from other supported devices and on

Why did this happen?

We regularly release new versions of the Dropbox app with additional features, better performance, and enhanced security, and these versions are not always compatible with older operating systems.

Microsoft stopped supporting Windows XP in April, 2014. We ended our support of the Dropbox app for Windows XP to keep our product offerings in-line.
