How to comment on a specific part of a file

You can comment on a specific part of a file by either highlighting the text you want to comment on, or by clicking and dragging around an area.

Note: See the table in this article for the file types that allow this feature.

How to comment on a section of text:

  1. On dropbox.com, click the file you want to comment on (this feature won't work on the Dropbox phone or desktop app).
  2. Click and drag over a word or block of text.
  3. You'll see a text bubble icon. Click this icon to show the comment box.

How to comment on a specific place in the preview:

  1. On dropbox.com, click the file you want to comment on (this feature won't work on the Dropbox phone or desktop app). 
  2. In the text box to the right, click the Comment on specific areas icon (a square with a plus sign).
  3. You can also move your cursor over your file and click the Comment on specific areas icon in the menu that appears at the bottom. 
  4. Click and drag anywhere on the file.
  5. Type your comment in the text box that appears. 
  6. Click Post and then click Done at the bottom of the screen.
  7. From any comment, you can click View on file to see the area that the comment applies to.
