How to use templates in Dropbox Paper

You can create templates for Dropbox Paper for regularly used doc formats, such as project plans or design briefs.

To create or access your templates, click Create with templates from paper.dropbox.com.

How to create a template

To create a template on paper.dropbox.com:

  1. Sign in to paper.dropbox.com.
  2. Click Create new doc, or open a doc you want to templatize.
  3. In your doc, click the (ellipsis) icon.
  4. Click Templatize.
  5. A template is generated from your doc. Edit your this doc to create your template.

Once you create a template, it appears in your template library. To access your template library, click Create with templates from the Paper homepage.

You can also create a template from your template library by clicking Create with templates from the Paper homepage. Click Create new template.

If you need to edit a template once it’s created, you can edit it:

  1. Sign in to paper.dropbox.com.
  2. Click Create with templates.
  3. Hover over the template you want to edit and click the pencil icon.

You need to have edit access to a template to edit the template.

How to use a template

To use a template on dropbox.com:

  1. Sign in to paper.dropbox.com.
  2. Click Create with templates.
  3. Hover over the template you want to use and click Create doc.
  4. You now have a new doc based on your template. 

You can also use a template from inside of a template. When you’re editing a template, click Use template to create a new doc based on that template.

To use a template on your iOS phone or tablet:

  1. Open the Paper mobile app.
  2. Click the pencil icon.
  3. Select the template you want to use.
  4. You now have a new doc based on your template. 

How to share a template

You can invite people to your template from the template editor. Click Share and invite people like you would to a Paper doc.

If you give someone edit access, they can make updates to the template. Editors and viewers of a template can see the template in their template library.

How to archive a template

  1. Sign in to paper.dropbox.com.
  2. Click Create with templates.
  3. Hover over the template you want to edit and click the pencil icon.
  4. Click the (ellipsis) icon from inside the template.
  5. Click Archive.

You need to have edit access to a template to archive a template. Archived templates can be found in Create with templates. Click the dropdown menu and select Archive to view archived templates.
