Copy or duplicate Dropbox files

You can make an exact copy (a duplicate) of a Dropbox file or folder on dropbox.com, the Dropbox mobile app, and the Dropbox desktop app.

On dropbox.com

To make a copy of a file or folder on dropbox.com:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Hover over the file or folder you’d like to copy.
  3. Click the “” (ellipsis).
  4. Click Copy.
  5. Click the folder where you’d like to save your copy.
  6. Click Copy to confirm.

In the Dropbox desktop app

To make a copy of a file or folder in the Dropbox desktop app:

  1. Open the Dropbox desktop app.
  2. Open your Dropbox folder in File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac).
  3. Right-click the file or folder you’d like to copy.
  4. Click Copy. The file or folder is copied to your computer’s clipboard.
  5. Click the folder where you’d like to save your copy.
  6. Right-click in the folder.
  7. Click Paste (Windows) or Paste item (Mac).

On the Dropbox mobile app

To make a copy of a file or folder in the Dropbox mobile app:

  1. Open the Dropbox mobile app.
  2. Tap Files.
  3. Tap the “ (vertical ellipsis on Android) or “” (ellipsis on iPhone/iPad) next to the file or folder you’d like to copy.
  4. Tap Duplicate (Android) or Copy (iPhone/iPad).
  5. Tap the folder where you’d like to save your copy.
  6. Tap Paste (Android) or Save copy (iPhone/iPad) to confirm.
