Dropbox and Gmail are two of the most widely used tools by teams and businesses today. In March 2018, we announced a new partnership with Google Cloud to bring our joint users enhanced functionality across platforms. Based on survey data*, we know that more than 50% of Dropbox users also use G Suite, and that hundreds of millions of Gmail users have created a Dropbox account.

Today we’re announcing that the Dropbox for Gmail add-on is generally available. It’s a great milestone for Dropbox and Google Cloud, spotlighting our companies’ commitments to providing users even more freedom to use their preferred tools and platforms.

The Dropbox for Gmail add-on presents all email attachments and Dropbox-linked files and folders in a centralized, native Gmail panel on mobile (available today on Android; coming soon on iOS) and web platforms. From this panel, Gmail users can expect to:

  • View all email attachments and Dropbox-linked files and folders across email messages in a thread
  • Save any Dropbox files or email attachments to any folder in your Dropbox account
  • See who sent content as well as when and how they sent it
  • Access the add-on functionality, regardless of their browser or device.

The add-on reduces time lost searching for attachments or Dropbox content in email threads. It also facilitates a seamless workflow between Gmail and Dropbox by enabling users to save directly from the add-on to Dropbox. This add-on functionality is available in the G Suite Marketplace.

Today’s announcement marks the initial launch of the Gmail add-on, and users can expect more functionality, including the ability to preview and share links through a Gmail compose experience later this year.

* Based on users surveyed in a 2016 sample of US English-only accounts that had been active in the prior 3 months.
