Our Tech Operations team scales security and reliability for our fast growing user base. This includes managing our network, hardware, and data centers, as well as creating the layer from which all Dropbox experiences are built. As our user base and product family continues to grow, tech operations is responsible for strengthening our foundation.

Role Description

The Dropbox Hardware Engineering team designs, qualifies, deploy, and sustains hardware platforms in our datacenter infrastructure.  The Dropbox Hardware Engineering team is seeking a highly motivated hardware systems engineer to create and qualify systems to be deployed in our infrastructure.  We are seeking a candidate with hardware platform validation and system engineering experience, who can work with cross-discipline design teams (Hardware Tech Leads, BIOS, BMC, Program Management, Capacity, Datacenter Team, Service Owners) to develop and qualify hardware to be deployed.  

Responsibilities

  • Gather system engineering requirements by working with hardware tech leads and other stakeholders.
  • Work with OxMs, hardware tech leads, and internal design teams to develop validation test plans for new technologies and server platforms.
  • Develop server test strategy, test cases and execute platform validation plans on hardware platforms.   
  • Developing quality criteria for different phases of the hardware lifecycle (EVT, DVT, PVT, sustaining).
  • Review system engineering and validation coverage throughout the test lifecycle of a new product introduction (NPI) program and publish plan vs progress reports.
  • Continuously work on refinement of test strategies and test plans.
  • Evaluate and qualification of server hardware and components.
  • Evaluate and qualify system firmware and BIOS; triage hardware/software issues.
  • Able to develop new tests and use industry benchmarks to validate new hardware designs. 
  • Work with OxMs, commodity vendors, silicon providers and internal design teams on resolving issues during the hardware lifecycle. 
  • Work with Data Center Engineering (DCE) and Data Center Operations (DCO) to integrate new systems into existing data center infrastructure and to understand serviceability requirements. 
  • Work with DCE and DCO teams to understand installation, operation, and serviceability considerations in our datacenter and incorporate feedback into designs. 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required. EE, Computer Engineering
  •  5+ years of server hardware industry experience
  •  Experience in hardware verification. 
  •  Experience in server design process; from conception to production
  •  Experience with server hardware, storage, networking, and datacenter infrastructure
  •  Experience in working with different type of vendors; commodity vendors and OxMs 
  •  Experience with server embedded firmware/systems; BIOS and BMC 
  •  Experience with C, C++, Python, Bash, or other programming languages
  •  Experience automating and developing unit tests to verify platforms and rack solutions
  •  Working knowledge of Linux
  •  Exceptional ability in debugging designs and complex hardware bugs
  •  Able to read basic schematics and layout 
  •  Ability to work independently with minimal direction
  •  Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
