Role Description

The Data Architect is responsible for designing and developing end to end robust, scalable data ingestion pipelines and data platform architecture that will support the analytical and reporting needs of the various internal business organizations at Dropbox. This will be a hands-on technical role. You will be working with a cross functional team of business domain experts, analysts, and other engineering teams to build, deploy & enhance our enterprise data warehouse.  This role provides opportunities to work on latest cloud technologies and cloud data warehouse to develop state of the art data analytics systems which compliments and scales with the company growth. 
This role entails working closely with functional teams like Finance, Marketing, Sales and  Product teams at Dropbox. You will work closely with Business Intelligence team to help build the backend solutions for reporting, dash boarding and analysis. You will need to manage and enhance the ETL/ELT pipelines to make sure data is flowing and KPIs are generated.


  • Ability to architect and build end to end data platforms.
  • Strong understanding and experience building ELT/ETL solutions for both structured and unstructured data sets.
  • Administering enterprise elastic/cloud data warehousing platform supporting the needs of critical BI reporting and analytical requirements.
  • Implement enterprise scale operational procedures and best practices for analytical environments.
  • Launch and support new data models that provide intuitive analytics to internal customers
  • Prototype new technologies and implement innovative solutions to enable teams to consume and understand data faster. 
  • Use your expert coding skills across a number of languages like SQL, Python and Java to support analysts and data scientists.
  • Interface with internal data consumers to understand data needs and be a subject matter expert on data architecture.
  • Collaborate with multiple teams in high visibility roles and own the solution end-to-end
  • Effectively work across team boundaries to establish data architecture, and provide guidance to individual teams.
  • Leveraging business and domain acumen to interpret and translate business requirements to architecture/technology plans.


  • 10+ years of hands-on experience working in enterprise scale data warehousing, data architecture and/or data engineering environments. 
  • 5+ years of designing, implementing and building pipelines (ETL) that deliver data with measurable quality under the SLA
  • 5+ years of SQL (Oracle, AWS Redshift, Hive, Snowflake etc) experience is required, No-SQL experience is a major plus;
  • 5+ years of hands-on data modeling experience, especially dimensional data modeling. 
  • 3+ years working experience on Map Reduce, Big-Data processing frameworks. 
  • Strong understanding of core infrastructure components (servers, network, storage).
  • Strong understanding of master data management and governance concepts such as data quality, metadata management, data lineage etc.
  • Strong experience working with custom or industry recognized ELT/ETL technologies
  • Experience working with open source workflow schedulers like Airflow, Luigi, Oozie etc.
  • Strong experience writing complex SQL queries;
  • Experience with building analytic solutions applicable to Finance, Product, Sales and Marketing organizations in an enterprise.
  • Experience implementing operational best practices such as monitoring, alerting, metadata management.
  • Experience managing, measuring, improving data quality in a data warehouse.
  • Communication skills including the ability to identify and communicate data driven insights
  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
