Company Description

Dropbox is now a Virtual First company, which means work outside of an office will be the primary experience for all employees. Being Virtual First also means the location of our employees is targeted but flexible. If “Location Flexible” is listed in the job title of a role, the role can be located in any of the states where Dropbox is authorized to do business.** Some roles (including those which do not have “Location Flexible” in the job title), however, may have to be co-located with their teams in certain locations. Please work with your recruiter and your hiring manager to understand any location constraints of a particular role and to communicate your location preferences. **Dropbox is authorized to do business in many, but not all, states. If you are not located in or able to work from a state where Dropbox is registered, you will not be eligible for employment. Please speak with your recruiter to learn more about where Dropbox is registered.

Team Description

Our Design team crafts delightful experiences that make people's lives easier. We're a close-knit, collaborative group, guided by a highly iterative user-centered design process. Combining research, data, and thoughtful critique, we're discovering needs and solving fundamental problems that impact work and life for millions of people around the world.

Role Description

We’re hiring a design leader to manage and lead a team of product designers working on New Businesses. The New Businesses organization creates and launches new products, and shepherds Dropbox’s strategic investments in the future. The leader in this role will support designers working on multiple new product initiatives related to creative tools and communication. They’ll partner closely with product management, engineering, and other functions, working towards product-market fit and new revenue through product experiences that meet clear, focused customer needs.

This is a chance to dig deep in a nuanced, specialized problem space. It’s a chance to do something brand-new for Dropbox. It’s also special because it is an opportunity to not just build, but to influence what we build by seeking the next set of problems for us to solve for teams working on video, and how we build it by contributing your insights to a still-evolving set of best practices for building 0-to-1 at Dropbox.

Responsibilities

  • You will manage and lead a driven, talented, and diverse team of designers across New Businesses
  • You will build a high performing team and culture of excellence, not just in design but across product teams
  • You will be a stakeholder for product strategy and vision, and partner closely with product, design, and engineering leaders in New Businesses
  • You will manage design execution and allocation across your New Businesses product teams
  • You will seek the next set of problems for Dropbox to solve, and help define how we solve them

Requirements

  • 3+ years experience leading a team of designers
  • History of building strong cross functional partnerships: this role will work hand-in-hand with engineering, product, and marketing leadership
  • Comfort with scrappiness, rapid iteration, and continuous shipping cycles
  • Strong initiative, comfort with ambiguity, and ability to drive a solid and transparent design process
  • Thrives in an execution-oriented, customer-centric environment
  • Experience on early-stage product initiatives or “zero-to-one” work is a plus
