The information in this article applies to all Dropbox users unless otherwise stated.

We’re constantly looking for ways to improve the Dropbox experience and expand our feature offerings. In the last few years, we welcomed HelloSign—now Dropbox Sign—and DocSend to the Dropbox family, and now we’ll be offering these services to many of our users as an integrated part of Dropbox. If you haven’t used these services before, you’ll now be able to access them from your Dropbox account. At this time, our integrated offering will only be available to non-team users.

As part of this change, we’re making a few updates to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Here’s a summary of the key changes:

  • Terms of Service
    • We added language to cover use of Dropbox Sign and DocSend services.
    • We added language clarifying users’ responsibilities should they choose to enable third-party integrations with Dropbox.
    • We now refer to Dropbox Business teams as Dropbox Teams and have updated the Terms of Service accordingly.
  • Privacy Policy
    • We added information to help users understand how data collection works if they use DocSend, viewer insights on content viewed in Dropbox, or our eSignature services.
    • We’ve added information to clarify how we use data when people interact with Dropbox representatives in certain marketing contexts.
    • We now refer to Dropbox Business teams as Dropbox Teams and have updated the Privacy Policy accordingly.

When do these updates take effect?

The updated Terms of Service and Privacy Policy take effect on April 3, 2023.

Will these updates affect the way I use Dropbox?

With these updates, we can now offer users who are not on Dropbox Teams integrated access to our DocSend and Dropbox Sign products and features. If you haven’t tried those services previously and you’re not part of a Dropbox Team, you’ll now have access to them directly from your Dropbox account.

If you’re already using DocSend or Dropbox Sign, you can continue to use your existing DocSend or Dropbox Sign account as before. DocSend and DropboxSign accounts won't automatically have access to Dropbox features. If you wish to link your current DocSend or Dropbox Sign accounts to a Dropbox account, you should continue to use our existing product integrations for DocSend and Dropbox Sign.

If you don't wish to try DocSend or Dropbox Sign, you may continue to use Dropbox in the same way as you always have.

How can Dropbox Teams members use DocSend or Dropbox Sign?

Dropbox Teams members can sign up for separate DocSend or Dropbox Sign accounts directly on docsend.com and dropboxsign.com. These accounts will be distinct from Dropbox accounts, and won't be managed by the Dropbox Team admin.

Customers who wish to manage a team of DocSend or Dropbox Sign users can still sign up for DocSend and Dropbox Sign team plans. These teams will continue to work as they have previously, and they'll be distinct from your Dropbox Team.

Are you changing how third-party integrations work?

No, third-party integrations will continue to work as they have previously. The new language merely clarifies that Dropbox does not own or operate any such features or integrations and we therefore can't be responsible for any act or omission of the third party or the availability, accuracy, the related content, products or services of third parties.

How do these updates affect how my data is used or shared?

If you choose to use DocSend or Dropbox Sign, your data may be shared with other users as part of using the DocSend and Dropbox Sign features. For example, if you view a document shared within DocSend, we'll report information about how you viewed that document to the sender. Similarly, to provide the DocSend and Dropbox Sign services, Dropbox uses additional trusted third parties, and your data may be shared with them to provide those services. You can learn more about the trusted third parties we use in our Privacy Policy FAQ.

If you choose not to use or interact with DocSend or Dropbox Sign, there'll be no change to how your data is used and shared.

What if I don’t want to agree to these terms?

By continuing to use the Dropbox Services, you are agreeing to our updated Terms and Privacy Policy. If, after reviewing the updates, you decide that you don’t want to agree to these terms, you can cancel your account by following the steps outlined here.

Do these changes apply to me if I’m an existing Dropbox Business Customer?

The changes to our Terms of Service don't affect your Dropbox Team’s agreement.
