Changes to the Photos page on the Dropbox website

The Photos page on dropbox.com changed on July 17, 2017.

All your photos remain safe in your Dropbox account, and you can view all the photos in your Dropbox account on Photos page. However, you can't create or share albums on the web, and the Photos page timeline has an updated look and feel.

Keep in mind that the photo albums on the Photos page are only one of the ways to share and organize your photos through Dropbox. Dropbox continues to support sharing and organizing your photos through folders, shared folders, and shared links. These features aren’t changing, and you can still use them to share and organize photos after July 17.

After the change to the Photos page:

  • You're no longer able to view, create, or share albums with others from this page. Instead, you can use folders to organize your photos, and shared folders and shared links to share.
  • The Photos page has been replaced with a new, streamlined photos experience that looks more like our redesigned Dropbox website. You can access it by navigating to dropbox.com/photos or clicking on Photos in the left-hand menu of dropbox.com.
  • You can continue to access all your photos by navigating to the folder or location in Dropbox where you originally saved them.

We’re continuing to work on new photos and file experiences on dropbox.com. As we learn more about how our users prefer to work with photos, we’ll launch improvements to the Photos page.

The changes to the Photos page don’t impact camera uploads. You can still use camera uploads to automatically upload photos to your Dropbox account.

Note: The Photos page is only available to personal Dropbox accounts.

View existing shared albums

If you shared an existing album, you can view it by navigating to dropbox.com/share/links. You can view the albums, but you can't modify them.

Use Dropbox folders as an alternative to albums

If you want to keep photos organized in the same way as an existing album, you need to recreate that grouping in a regular Dropbox folder.

Note: Dropbox can't automatically convert existing albums into folders.

To upload an album to Dropbox as a folder:

  1. Navigate to dropbox.com.
  2. Click New folder.
  3. Enter a name for your new folder and press Enter.
  4. Upload an album into this new folder.
  5. To share the photos with others, make the new folder a shared folder or share a link.

Use gallery view to browse your photos

Another way to browse your photos is through gallery view. Gallery view, which is part of our updated web design, allows you to see large thumbnail previews of photos and other file types.

You can easily view your photos (.PNG, .JPEG, and RAW file types), as well as videos, PDFs, Microsoft Office files, and Adobe creative files. View the full list of supported file types on dropbox.com.

To use gallery view on dropbox.com, click the grid icon at the top right of your screen.

Frequently asked questions

Can I still share a collection of photos?

Yes. Use a shared link to give one or more people access to a folder containing a collection of photos.

Group the photos you’d like to share into a folder, and then use a shared links to give others access to them.

Will I still be able to share photos directly from my Dropbox account to Facebook or Twitter?

You’re no longer able to share photos directly from your Dropbox account to social media. Instead, you can use shared links to share files or folders on social media.

Will I still be able to scroll through my photos quickly, like I used to?

The new Photos page sorts photos chronologically, and you can scroll through your photos. The speed scroller – the timeline on the right-hand side of the page that allowed you to quickly view photos from a specific date – is no longer available.

How will removing photos from my albums affect my storage quota?

Keep in mind that when you added a photo to an album, the photo was still saved somewhere else in your Dropbox account. If you removed a photo from an album without deleting it from the place where it was saved, it didn't affect your storage quota.

To see where a photo in an album is saved, click on the checkmark to select the photo, and then choose Show in folder.
