Require two-step verification

Require that your team members add an extra layer of protection to their accounts by using two-step verification

Two-step verification is a highly recommended security feature, adding an extra layer of protection for any Dropbox account. In addition to their username and password, team members who use two-step verification will have an extra authentication step when signing in or linking new devices to Dropbox: a six-digit security code available on only their mobile phones (generated via text message or an authenticator app).

While two-step verification is recommended for every account, Dropbox Business team admins can require that team members use two-step verification, bringing added file security to the whole team.


Requiring two-step verification for team members

Team admins can require two-step verification for all members of a team, or for selected team members. Once it's set, new team members will be prompted to set up two-step verification during the account creation process, and existing team members will be prompted to set up two-step verification the very next time they sign in to Dropbox.

  1. Sign in to the Dropbox website using your Business admin account
  2. Open the Admin Console
  3. Click Authentication
  4. Select Require two-step verification
  5. Select whether you'd like to require two-step verification for some or all team members
  6. If you've selected Require for specific members, enter the email addresses of the team members you'd like to use two-step verification, and then click Proceed
  7. Two-step verification will now be active, and you will see this reflected on the Authentication page

Notes:

  • Requiring two-step verification will not log your team member out of their devices or web sessions, and won't interrupt their workflow
  • Team members will not be protected by two-step verification until they set it up. Team admins can track setup progress in the members tab

Resetting two-step verification for a team member

If one of your team members loses a device, you can quickly reset two-step verification for their Dropbox account:

  1. Open the Admin Console
  2. Click the Members tab
  3. Locate the team member, and click the gear icon next to that person's name
  4. Click Reset two-step verification
