Thank you Dennis—welcome Yamini and Lin-Hua

By Drew Houston

After four great years, Dennis Woodside is stepping down as COO of Dropbox. Dennis has had an enormous impact on both our business and our culture. He’s helped transform a scrappy startup into a global business and publicly traded company with over $1 billion in revenue and more than 1,800 employees in 12 global offices.

Dennis has also been a big part of our community—from sponsoring employee resource groups to opening his home to Dropboxers to chaperoning morning runs at our leadership offsites. His last official day at the office will be in early September, but he’ll remain an advisor to the company through the end of the year. Dennis has been a terrific partner and friend, and he’ll always be part of the Dropbox family. We wish him all the best in his next adventure.

One of Dennis’s greatest contributions is the strong leadership bench he’s built, and I’m excited to announce that we’re promoting two of these seasoned leaders. They’ll join our executive team, which will be restructured to take on Dennis’s responsibilities and drive even greater focus on our customers and partners. As a result, we don’t plan on bringing in another COO.

  • Yamini Rangan, currently our VP of Business Strategy and Operations, will become Chief Customer Officer reporting to me. In this new role, she’ll be responsible for our customer-focused business functions including Global Sales, Marketing, Customer Experience, Business Development, and Business Strategy and Operations. Yamini joined Dropbox in 2016 and has 20 years of experience across sales, marketing, and operations. Before Dropbox, she led Global Sales Strategy and Operations at Workday, and prior to that, she held senior positions at Appirio and SAP.
  • Lin-Hua Wu, our VP of Communications, will also report to me. Lin joined us in 2016 and oversees external and internal communications and analyst relations. Her new role will help ensure that we have the right market context informing our decisions, and that our communications are fully aligned with our business strategy. Lin brings more than two decades of experience to Dropbox, coming most recently from Square, where she led Corporate Communications, and Brunswick Group, where she was a partner.

I know we’ll benefit from the perspectives and expertise that Yamini and Lin bring to our leadership team, and we’re thrilled to have them on board. We’ve come a long way since Dennis joined the company in 2014. He’s leaving Dropbox in a strong position, and the organizational changes we’re announcing today set us up for continued success. As a company, we have a unique opportunity to profoundly impact the way people work. We’re excited about the road ahead.
