Sign in to Dropbox with SSO

If your administrator has enabled single sign-on (SSO), you'll be able to access Dropbox in the same way you access other applications for work—by entering your SSO password on your organization's sign-in page.

Each organization has its own requirements for employees, so check with your admin to see how to use SSO for work. Read on to learn more about using Dropbox with single sign-on.

Sign in to dropbox.com

Whenever you need to sign in to the Dropbox website, enter your email address and click Continue. You'll be taken to your organization's sign-in page. Enter your SSO password there (not your Dropbox password).

Add a computer to your account

If the Dropbox desktop app on your computer is currently signed into your Dropbox account, you don't need to do anything—the computer has been added to the device list in your account settings and you can keep using the app without having to sign in again.

However, if you need to remove your computer and add a new one, you'll need the latest version of the app to use SSO.

To add a computer to your device list:

  1. Open the Dropbox desktop app.
  2. Select I already have a Dropbox account and click Continue.
  3. Enter your email address and click Continue.
  4. Click the Get your link code button.
  5. If you haven't signed in to your organization's SSO page, you'll be prompted to do so in your web browser. Enter your email address, SSO password (not your Dropbox password), and any other information your organization requires. If you've already signed in, you'll skip this step.
  6. A page will open in your browser and display a code. Click the Copy link code button, or select and copy the code manually.
  7. Go back to the Dropbox desktop app and click Paste, or manually paste the code into the field and click Continue.
  8. Follow the rest of the setup process to finish adding the computer to your Dropbox account.

Add a mobile device to your account

If the Dropbox mobile app on your phone or tablet is currently signed into your Dropbox account, you don't need to do anything—the device has been added to the device list in your account settings and you can keep using the app without having to sign in again.

However, if you need to remove your device and add a new one, you'll need the latest version of the app to use SSO.

To add a phone or tablet to your device list:

  1. Open the Dropbox mobile app.
  2. Tap I'm Already a Dropbox User.
  3. Enter your email address and tap Sign In to Dropbox.
  4. If you haven't signed in to your organization's SSO page on your device, a browser window will open up and prompt you to do so. Enter your email address, SSO password (not your Dropbox password), and any other information your organization requires. If you've already signed in on your device, you'll skip this step.
  5. A page will open in your browser that requests your approval for the app to use SSO. Tap Allow.
  6. In the Dropbox mobile app, follow the rest of the setup process to finish adding the device to your Dropbox account.

Optional mode

If your admin has made SSO optional, you'll be able to use either sign-in method. You can sign in to your organization's page with your SSO password for work, or click Log in with Dropbox credentials to sign in with your Dropbox password.
