How to store shortcuts to webpages in your Dropbox folder
Updated May 08, 2025
You can store a shortcut to a webpage in a Dropbox folder, just like you would store a file. Shortcuts are stored with the file extension .web and are represented by a globe icon. Shortcuts open in your default web browser.
Create a shortcut in Dropbox
- Log in to dropbox.com.
- Navigate to the folder you’d like to store your shortcut in.
- Click Create.
- Hover over More and click Shortcut.
- Enter the URL and Name for your shortcut.
- Click Create.
Rename, move, copy, or delete a shortcut
You can rename, move, copy, or delete a shortcut exactly the same way you would a regular file. However, you can’t edit the URL itself.
Can I share a shortcut?
You can’t share a .web shortcut you’ve stored in Dropbox. Instead, you would send the URL itself.
You can, however, share the folder the shortcut is stored in. The shortcut will open for anyone you share the folder with.
Save a webpage as a PDF to Dropbox
If you want to save a webpage as a PDF to Dropbox instead of a shortcut, follow the steps below.
- Open Safari on your iOS device.
- Navigate to the webpage you wish to save.
- Tap (share arrow).
- Tap Options.
- Select PDF, then tap Done.
- Tap the Dropbox mobile app icon.
- Choose a folder to save the PDF to.
- Tap Upload.
A PDF of the webpage will be saved to the Dropbox folder you selected.
