Switch between personal and work accounts

If you're a Dropbox Business or team user, you can switch between a work and personal account on dropbox.com without having to sign out and sign in each time.

To access both accounts:

  1. Pair your accounts
  2. Add both accounts on all your devices.

While signed in to one account, you can access your other account at any time by selecting the name of the account you want to view from the sidebar on the left side of the screen.

You may be prompted to sign in to your other account to access the content, depending on your last activity.

Your browser will show the contents of the Dropbox folder for your other account. You can now use that account as you normally would. To go back to your other account, just click on the name of the account you want to use from the left-hand sidebar again.

Access both accounts in the desktop app

You can easily access both your work and personal Dropbox accounts on your computer.

Click the Dropbox logo in the menu bar (Mac) or system tray (Windows) to open the notification panel.

In the bottom right corner of the notification panel, you can select what activity to view:

  • Everything: both personal and business
  • Personal: just your personal notifications
  • Business: just your business notifications

At the top right, click the folder icon. From here you can choose either:

  • Open Personal folder
  • Open Business folder
  • Launch Dropbox Paper

Note: You can't add both accounts to the Dropbox app on Linux.

Switch between accounts in the mobile app

Your can also access your work and personal accounts in the Dropbox mobile app.

Select your operating system to learn how:

  1. Open the Dropbox app.
  2. Tap your avatar.
  3. Tap Switch account.

  1. Open the Dropbox app.
  2. Tap Personal or your company name at the top of the screen.

How it works

  • Once your accounts are connected, both accounts can be active at the same time. For example, if you have two web browser tabs or windows open to dropbox.com, switching to the other account in one window doesn't affect the other window or tab.
  • When you sign out, you're signed out of both accounts at the same time.
  • None of your stuff is automatically shared across accounts when you sign in to both. You can transfer files between accounts by using shared folders, provided your admin allows sharing outside of the team (Dropbox Business users only).
  • You can only switch between a work and personal account, not two personal accounts.
