My Dropbox Business account is “full” or “almost full.” Why, and what should I do?

Dropbox Business team admins can set limits on how much storage space each member of a team can use. In some cases, a team member who exceeds this space limit will receive a warning message but nothing else will change. They can still use Dropbox as usual.

However, some teams can also opt to set more firm limits for team members who exceed the allotted space limit. Dropbox will then behave differently for these members. Specifically:

  • They can no longer upload files to their Dropbox accounts
  • Files will no longer sync (this includes changes made to a file in their Dropbox account, or changes made to files in a shared folder they're a member of)

If you see a message that your Dropbox Business account is “full” or “almost full,” it's because your team admin has set a limit on how much space you can use.

Note: Team members who exceed the space limit can still upload files to a team folder, or a shared folder owned by someone else on the team.

What should I do if my account is “full” or “almost full.”

If you're receiving one of these warning messages, there are two things you can do:

  • Remove files to bring your account below the space limit
  • Contact your admin to request more space

Once you've removed files—or been granted more space—you should no longer see the warning messages.

How do I remove files or delete them from Dropbox?

You can remove files or folders from your Dropbox in a few different ways:

  • Drag them out of Dropbox and store them locally on your computer, phone, or tablet
  • Drag them out of Dropbox and store them on some other storage device or application
  • Leave a shared folder
  • Delete them from Dropbox

If you'd like to delete files or folders from your Dropbox account, you can do so from the desktop app, mobile app, or dropbox.com:
