Frequently asked questions
Plans are designed around how you work. Individual plans are best for one person managing their own files. Team plans are built for work - team-owned content, admin controls, and collaboration across people or clients.
Team plans are designed for team-owned content and admin control. Even very small teams choose team plans if they collaborate regularly, work with clients, or need shared ownership and recovery features. If others only contribute files or access links in limited ways, an individual plan may be enough. Full collaboration requires each person to have their own Dropbox account.
Team folders are owned by the team and managed by admins, so work stays with the organization. Personal folders belong to individual users. Both team and personal folders can be shared to collaborate with others while keeping ownership and access clear.
Shared folders count toward a team’s storage only when they’re added to the team’s Dropbox account - either through direct sharing or by joining a shared folder from a link. Shared links alone don’t use storage.
Yes. Teams can collect files from anyone using file request links - even people without Dropbox accounts - while keeping internal files private.
Yes. Incoming transfer requests allow people to upload files without seeing anything else in your Dropbox. Each uploader only interacts with their own upload experience.
Team trials let you explore core collaboration features before committing. You’ll be asked to add a payment method to start the trial, and your plan will automatically continue as a paid subscription when the trial ends unless you cancel beforehand.
User limits may apply during trials. You can can contact Sales for more options.
How Dropbox compares:
to Google Drive
Work across teams, tools, and file types
Google Drive works best for teams fully committed to Google Workspace. Dropbox is platform-agnostic, making it easier to collaborate on Microsoft, Adobe, video, and other professional file types - especially with partners outside your organization and it can be faster for real work at scale (e.g., 71% faster uploads for folders with 10,000 files*).
to Microsoft OneDrive
Clear collaboration - without the complexity
OneDrive spreads work across multiple Microsoft tools, which can make collaboration harder to follow, especially with external partners. Dropbox gives teams a single, clear place to work, with fast syncing and built-in tools for reviewing, sharing, and managing files across devices - including performance advantages like 21x faster uploads of large folders*.
*with 10,000 1 KB files
to Box
Powerful collaboration, designed to scale with teams
Box is optimized for highly regulated, large-enterprise environments with extensive configuration needs. Dropbox is designed to scale from small teams to large organizations, combining strong security with fast performance and simpler collaboration - especially when work spans internal teams and external partners - with reported performance wins like 95% faster end-to-end sync across devices*.
