Background
In 2020, Kyle Mountsier and Paul Daly set out to rewrite the stories people tell about the retail auto industry.
“I remember the looks I’d get when I told people I worked at dealerships,” says Mountsier, Partner and COO of More Than Cars. “But the shops where I worked were very different from the ones you see in movies or read about in headlines. We wanted to present the industry in a way that’s honest and true.”
That’s why the duo founded More Than Cars, a media company producing shows, podcasts, training, and events that empower car dealers and industry partners to elevate their teams and businesses. Their latest project, the docuseries More Than Cars: The Truth About Car Dealers, explores how US-based dealers positively impact their communities.
But developing such a broad range of content generated a flood of documents, images, and video files that stretched the team’s storage capabilities to the max.
Challenge: growing production with scattered storage
More Than Cars originally used SD cards and hard drives for storage. But as production scaled and their materials spread across Otter, Asana, Slack, and text messages, the team struggled to keep everyone aligned.
“There were only one or two people with the lion’s share of information,” Mountsier says. “If they weren’t available or couldn’t remember where to find something, it would take us forever to track it down.”
The team needed a powerful partner to help with storage, organization, and universal team access—without bottlenecks.

“We’ve created eight episodes at over 30 locations. Dropbox Dash has probably reduced the search time for editors by more than 80%.”

Solution: one place to store, organize, and share
Dropbox gave More Than Cars a way to move beyond simply storing, organizing, and retrieving files at the pace their business demands.
The platform checked all of Mountsier’s boxes:
- Flexible file management limits
- Secure, reliable transfers
- Cloud-based access from anywhere
Mountsier was especially excited to discover Dropbox Dash, an AI-powered, intelligent workspace that lets their editors, storyboarders, and production managers search for files using natural language. Instead of relying on file names and tags, Dash sifts through transcripts, documents, and folder structures to quickly surface the right item based on keywords and phrases.
“I knew Dropbox Dash would be a game-changer for us,” Mountsier says.
Whether something starts in a Slack thread or an Asana task, Dash locates it instantly. It’s become the connective tissue across all of their tools, creating a single source of truth for the entire team.
More Than Cars is also a part of the Dropbox Design Partner Program, which gives Mountsier and his team a voice in shaping the tools they use every day.
“We’re a fairly small company, so being integrated into the product roadmap of a global company like Dropbox has been incredibly beneficial for our team,” Mountsier says.

Results: $4,000 saved per week, 80% less time searching
Dropbox enables More Than Cars’ editors to find, move, and share raw content on their own—without friction, confusion, or slowdowns. For a team producing a multi-episode docuseries, that speed has significantly accelerated production.
“We’ve created eight episodes at over 30 locations,” Mountsier says. “Dropbox Dash has probably reduced the search time for editors by more than 80%.”
And the savings aren’t limited to time spent in the edit suite.
“We have around 10 people deeply integrated into Dropbox Dash, saving 20 hours a week at $200 an hour,” Mountsier says. “You do the math on what that means for our bottom-line efficiency as an organization.”
The math? About $4,000 saved per week.
Beyond the docuseries, Dropbox Dash makes it easy to comb through years of video and podcasts to find relevant content within seconds. With their storage and search struggles finally in the rear-view mirror, More Than Cars is focused on the road ahead.

“Dropbox Dash has made our team more self-sufficient in their personal process management, which has an end result of our clients, sponsors, and customers being happier.”
