Productivity in your pocket

Here are a few ways to get the most out of the doc scanner

Scan receipts

Forget about collecting – or worse, losing – stacks of receipts on business trips for your expense reports. Just scan them into Dropbox as you go, and they’ll be easy to find and submit later.

Scan whiteboard drawings

No more frantically transcribing notes from the whiteboard. Just use the doc scanner, and an image of the whiteboard will be uploaded as a PDF or PNG into the folder of your choice, ready to share with other meeting attendees.

Scan contracts, bills and invoices

Ditch the filing cabinet, and keep digital copies of important files. Keep them organised in Dropbox, and access them from any of your devices.

Scan photos

Scan your old photos into Dropbox so they’ll be safely preserved and easily accessible. All it takes is your phone; no special equipment is needed.

Scan business cards

Never lose an important connection! Easily upload business cards from meetings, conferences and trade shows – right from your phone.

Scan magazine clippings

Inspiration can be found anywhere – like when you’re flicking through a magazine at the doctor’s surgery. Instead of ripping out someone else’s magazine page, just scan the page or excerpt into Dropbox.

Scan personal cards and notes

Want to save thoughtful personal notes, but trying to cut down on clutter? Just scan them into Dropbox for keepsakes without the clutter.

Scan handouts

Scan in materials from classes or lectures for easy reference – and save space at home or in the office.

Scan napkin sketches

Did inspiration just strike? With Dropbox doc scanner, you’ll always be able to capture the next brilliant business idea.

Then you can take a picture of your document, or select an existing image on your device to transform into a document.

OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition or Optical Character Reader. OCR is a technology used to “recognise” or “read” text featured in image files. OCR either converts images of typed, handwritten or printed text from the files – including scanned documents, photos of a document, photos with signs or scenes with type or subtitles on an image – into text that machines can process and search through. Currently, Dropbox uses OCR to recognise the text of your PDFs to make them searchable by their contents.

Images and PDFs stored in Dropbox Professional, Business Advanced and Enterprise accounts are automatically and securely scanned so you can search for the text found within them. Professional users, as well as Dropbox Business and Enterprise teams with early access to our automatic image text recognition feature, can search the text of scanned documents.
