Save, organize, and share important documents right from your phone—with the Dropbox document and PDF scanner
Easily upload and organize quality scans from paper documents, whiteboards, receipts, sketches, and more using the Dropbox mobile app. Available now on Android and iOS mobile devices.
Dropbox Professional and Business users can even search for text within their scans, thanks to optical character recognition (OCR).
Here are a few ways to get the most out of the document scanner app.
Forget about collecting—or worse, losing—stacks of receipts on business trips for your expense reports. Just scan them into Dropbox as you go using your smartphone, and they’ll be easy to find and submit later.
No more frantically transcribing notes from the whiteboard. Just use the doc scanner, and an image of the whiteboard will be uploaded as a PDF or PNG into the folder of your choice—ready to share.
Never lose an important connection! Easily upload business cards from meetings, conferences and tradeshows—right from your mobile device.
Inspiration can be found anywhere—like when you’re flipping through a magazine at the doctor’s office. Instead of ripping out someone else’s magazine page, just scan the page or excerpt into Dropbox using the document scanner.
Did inspiration just strike? With Dropbox doc scanner, you’ll always be able to capture your next brilliant idea.

OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition or Optical Character Reader. OCR is a technology used to “recognize” or “read” text featured in image files. OCR either converts images of typed, handwritten, or printed text from the files—including scanned documents, photos of a document, photos with signs or scenes with type, or subtitles on an image—into text that machines can process and search through. Currently, Dropbox uses OCR to recognize the text of your PDFs to make them searchable by their contents.
Images and PDF files stored in Dropbox Professional, Business Advanced, and Enterprise accounts are automatically and securely scanned so you can search for the text found within them. Professional users, as well as Dropbox Business and Enterprise teams with early access to our automatic image text recognition feature, can search the text of scanned documents they’ve saved in cloud storage.
